SPOTTY BILLFISH ACTION FOUND BY SPORTFISHING CHARTER BOATS

Nov. 25, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing Report:

Mazatlan offshore fishing continues to be precarious with about 1 out of 4 sportfishing boats landing a billfish, all of which were striped marlin. No sailfish were reported.

Inshore fishing action at Mazatlan continues to be good, with a noticeable increase in the sierra counts.

Overall counts for 18 Mazatlan fishing days reflected 4 stripers, 3 dorado 1 yellowfin tuna, and the inshore catch for a couple of super panga fishing days reflected 17 Jack Crevalle and 50-plus on the Sierra.

Mazatlan weather was mostly sunny and warm, temperatures from 52 degree nighttime lows to 81 daytime highs. Water temperatures ranged from 75 inshore and out to about 22 miles and changing to 80 degrees on the break.

Best Mazatlan fishing area was about 25 miles southwest of the Marina El Cid. Rigged trolling baits were working best.
