SAILBOAT IS RESCUED IN CONCEPTION BAY

Jan. 21, 2005, Paul Rista, Mulege, Mexico Sailboat Rescue Report:

Last Monday, 2 gringos went out on a sailboat from Posada, in Conception Bay. Tuesday night they ran out of fuel (in a sail boat?) and were lost until Thursday afternoon. In the meantime I translated for the Mexican Navy, Guaymas, and La Paz, and had the captain of the port at Santa Rosalia on the phone, and over to my house twice.

Guaymas send out a helicopter. The American Consulate of Tijuana was involved. The Mexican Navy found them and brought them back to Posada in Conception Bay. The boat was a Cal 31 named Backstreet, recently purchased by Douglas Eier from someone in Puerto Escondido. The new owners live in La Posada, a bay in Conception Bay. Happy that they are safe, however I don't think, this stink is over with yet. The locals are not happy with the intervention of the American Consulate in Tijuana, and the cost for the search and rescue by the Mexican government.
