FLY-IN FISHING TRIP TO MULEGE'S HOTEL SERENIDAD

Sept. 6, 2005, Ron Grant, Mulege, Mexico Fishing Report:

I just returned from a five day trip to Mulege, with typical hot weather for this time of the year. Mulege water temperature seems hotter then normal at 85 to 90 degrees in deep water. It's perfect dorado smooth water but with little results. I managed to get two 12 to 15 pounders, on a 60 degree heading about 15 to 18 miles from lighthouse. This puts you off the mine area just below Conception Point. You still see billfish in the area and they will take a dorado feather if you can get close enough. Schools of skipjack and working birds are seen as well.

Mulege locals are complaining that there seem to be several Mexican long liners fishing the area. They have filled a complaint but really don't expect any reaction from the government. The long liners are getting mostly dorado.

The Hotel Serenidad is closed for September vacation but rooms are available with limited kitchen meals. It will reopen 1 October. Don Johnson said to look for upgraded food and remolded rooms.
