COMMERCIAL FISHING BOATS HAMPERED BY UNFAVORABLE WEATHER

Sept. 25, 2005, Sam Saenz, Puerto Santo Tomas Resort, Puerto Santo Tomas, Mexico Fishing Report:

All week long, Puerto Santo Tomas had high surf and high swell conditions all along coast, and it primarily affected the commercial sea urchin and lobster fishing. Puerto Santo Tomas also had moderate to heavy winds blowing out to sea in in the afternoons.

There is a lot of bait in the water, with lots of bird activity, but so far fishing by trolling has not gotten a surface bite. The bottom fishing continues to be excellent. Byron Goats from Salt Lake City and friends enjoyed two days of panga fishing at Puerto Santo Tomas, catching full limits of bottom fish such as sheephead, lingcod and rockcod.
