25-POUND AFRICAN POMPANO CAUGHT ABOARD THE SPORTFISHING BOAT MARLA II
Nov. 10, 2005, Danny Osuna, Marla's Sportfishing, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Fishing Report:
Fishing out of Puerto Vallarta on Monday, Nov. 7th, John Colombo from California caught a 25 pound African pompano on board the Marla II with Capt. Danny Osuna, while fishing inshore Puerto Vallarta waters where the water conditions were nice with cool water temperature of 79 degrees. After releasing a few roosterfish we end up landing this beautiful African pompano using caballitos as live bait. Puerto Vallarta fishing inshore is getting really good and the fishing offshore too.
On Tuesday, Nov. 8th, Steve Crosetti from Hercules California and his son Steve Jr. From San Francisco caught a nice roosterfish caught on the Marla 2. Father and son released 18 roosters and 12 jack crevalle.
Fishing on Wednesday, Nov. 9th, Russell and Paige Willingham from Houston caught a 120 pound tuna on the Marla 2 at El Banco, where the water condition was nice beautiful, flat sea, with a good water temperature of 83 degrees.
After fishing few days inshore we tried the offshore banks hunting for some tunas. We saw a lot of bait skipjacks, and we had no problem making live bait, but the tunas all wanted small live bait like caballitos, as these tunas were feeding on small bait fish.
We slow troll 2 skipjacks and 2 caballitos. Not Longer than 10 minutes when we had a big 30 pound dorado strike a caballito having the Eagle Claw circle hook do the work to land this fish.
After, we baited up again. In the few minutes we had a 60 lbs tuna take another caballito. We decided to bait up one more time, having another hook up of a 120 lbs tuna striking another caballito.
