QUALITY YELLOWFIN TUNA FOUND ABOUT 20 MILES OUT

April 30, 2005, Bill Molden, San Carlos, Mexico Fishing Report:

The last couple of weeks has really been strange in that we have record size yellowfin tuna and the earliest arrival of Dorado that I can recall. The fish started showing up at 20 miles on a 170-180 heading out of San Carlos. The key was finding 70-72 degree water. As of today it would appear that the fish have been moving farther off shore, 25-40 miles, as the currents move this warm pocket of water around. We've had winds out of the northwest consistently, so until the winds shift to the south-southeast we'll not see much warming.

There have been 20-25 pound Dorado and 50 pound yellowfin tuna caught in good numbers, and the lure of choice has been the good ol' cedar plug. The water color is still green, but the warmer water is starting to blue up a bit.
