TOWN MALECON JAMMED WITH HOLIDAY TRAVELERS

June 12, 2004, Catalina Meders’ San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico town report:

Hola every one from very quiet pleasant San Felipe. A perfect day here...with the air at 82F (88F in the water) and overnights lows of about 68F...the humidity is only 32% today so it's wonderful for just about any type of activity.... Last night we did the very unusual and went out on the town on a Saturday night (usually us old folks are sound asleep by 9:30PM).

What a scene! the whole town was full of holiday makers...especially the San Felipe malecon which was jam-packed with hot-dog carts, soup carts, ice=cream carts, bands on every corner...people singing and lots of children dancing....seemed like all of Mexicali had taken to route 5 South for the weekend....and was out in the street having a huge fiesta.

We ran into dozens of people we know...both gringo and Mexican...and staggered home late and tired, but happy and feeling very much a part of "the community"....after living here full time for eleven years it really struck us last night, that San Felipe truly is our "home town" now...a very special feeling... The bay is a glorious shade of aquamarine blue this morning...and the town is quiet again....and all is well...'till next time, vaya con Dios from the book store by the bay.
