CASS TOURS WAHOO HUNT TRIP TO LOS CABOS
Nov. 11, 2004, Ray Madrid, San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico sportfishing trip report:
On Nov. 6-8, 2004, I fished at San Jose del Cabo with a group of 25 fisherman from Cass Tours.
My panga captain was Marcello from Gordo Banks Panga's. Eric Brictson the owner was there every day to make sure things went smooth. The action was a bit slow but steady for Tuna and Dorado. The wahoo were almost nonexistent. Bait of small sardinas was difficult to make for the bait boats, but most pangas were able to buy bait.
The boats that fished north of La Playita averaged 4 to 8 fish per boat and the yellowfin tuna averaged 10 to 18 pounds. The boats that fished south of La Playita averaged 10 to 16 yellowfin tuna per boat of 8 to 12 pounds.
Each area also produced several dorado per boat. The fish were mostly caught by trolling small sardines on 25-pound line and a #2 hook. The iron and plastic were not working, but the Rapalas did get a few. There were a few bigger yellowfin tuna caught at the near bank which were between 60 to 80 pounds. They were caught using chunk bait on a 6/0 hook and 60 pound line. I caught a 60-pound fish.
We stayed at the Posada Real Best Western Hotel. The wind would pick up late mornings 10 to 15 knots and cause 2 to 4-foot swells, wind chop, and white caps. We were back on land by 12:30 p.m.
