A 60-POUND WAHOO CAUGHT AT THE
GORDO BANKS WITH LEONA'S SPORTFISHING

May 20, 2005, Mike Rhoades, San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico sportfishing Report:

I fished out of the Palmilla this week, and let me tell you the fishing is great. We caught tuna from 10 pounds, to one at 200 pounds, and lost another equally as big.

We caught a wahoo on Monday morning at 60 pounds, followed by 2 grouper in the 15 to 30 pound range, and a couple of good sized red snapper. We caught them all at the Gordo Banks.

By Thursday the bite at San Jose del Cabo (Los Cabos) had moved down to in front of the Palmilla about 3 miles offshore with limits of tuna, dorado, and all the marlin you wanted to catch.

San Jose del Cabo weather was in the high 80's to low 90's with a light wind out of the south. We went up to East Cape on Tuesday where fishing appeared to be a little slower and the wind quite a bit stronger. Boats were bringing in various catches of a wahoo and tuna and some had multiple marlin flags. The dorado were not in abundance yet, but it is warming up down there so things will probably really heat up in a couple of weeks.

We fished with La Leona's Sportfishing, Julio Zumaya. The water temperature was still a bit cool for this time of year. We fished Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
