OUTING WITH CAPT. LITTLE BEAR ON THE FANY III

Nov. 14, 2004, Jim Marsh, San Quintin, Baja California, Mexico fishing:

Brad Johnston, Jay Dodge and I fished with Little Bear in the Fany III on November 12th. We left the San Quintin boat ramp at 5:30 a.m. Near the mouth of the bay we stopped for bait and got 4 to 5 mackerel every time we dropped.

The next stop was near the north shore of San Quintin Bay. We then moved directly north inside the bay 100 yards of the shore in 20-30 feet of water and dropped live mackerel for Halibut we thought. By 7 a.m. I had a fish on. We were expecting halibut or Black Sea Bass. The fish bit on live bait and spooled the 25-pound line away from the boat. The skipper followed with the boat until the fish was tired and we saw color. It was a white seabass near 55 pounds. The seabass was our only fish there and what a surprise.

We left the San Quintin area for Socorro after that where we caught bonita, barracuda and cabrilla. By 10 a.m., it was too windy to fish and we returned to the beach.

We stayed at the Old Mill in San Quintin where we had a nice clean room with 4 single beds for $45 per night. Jardines de Baja Restaurant cooked our fish Al Mojo de Ajo and in fajitas yummmmmm!! That is the best restaurant in San Quintin. Little Bear is very good, speaks perfect English. I have been going to the Old Mill for 20 years and I may stay at Cielito Lindo next just to save some of the boat ride time inside the bay. I like their cracked crab also.
