San Quintin, Mexico:
Giant Squid Hamper Action For 15 Sportfishing Charter Boats

Feb. 6, 2005, Pete Hillis, Pedro's Pangas, San Quintin, Baja California, Mexico:

We had 15 fishing boats out of San Quintin this week.

Dr. Neese and Gini Ponsell from San Pedro, Calif., had 6 yellowtail, 18 to 20 pounds and 4 lingcod, which were 10 to 14 pounds.

Tony Gomes, Chris Kurazs, Ed Keefer, and Rob Timar, all from San Diego, also went fishing and brought in San Quintin yellowtail and lingcod. The largest yellow was 36 pounds reeled in by Tony Gomes.

Jim Nolan and J.D. Nolan, along with Josh Hillis, fished south of San Quintin at Socorro and got limits of calico bass and sandbass, plus three large white seabass. The white seabass averaged 45 pounds.

One new fishing problem was that giant squid came into the area which slowed the yellowtail bite. But if you are a squid fan, come on down. Seas have been calm with no wind. San Quintin in water temperatures have been around 58 degrees. The air temperature in the morning has been around 60 degrees, warming up to mid-70s by afternoon.
