San Quintin, Mexico:
Yellowtail At Socorro

Feb. 19-21, 2005, Kelly Catian, K&M Offshore Sportfishing, San Quintin, Baja sportfishing, Mexico:

The San Quintin "fishing" weekend started with me pulling a couple guys out of the mud on the Old Mill road on Friday, and it just so happened that they were looking for a boat for Saturday!

We went fishing out of San Quintin and got into yellowtails down at Socorro and lots of bass.

On Sunday, I fished with Randy Peters and his friend Poun Keo, and we headed down from San Quintin again for more of the same. We were chasing boiling yellowtails when Randy got picked up on the drop on a green and yellow jig. The fish made a huge run and went straight for the 70 foot stringer kelp. We ran the boat around the kelp to untangle it, and then Randy got it freed up and brought to gaff a fat 53 pound toad white seabass!

Then the fishing was on for Randy's friend Poun, as he got bit on a dropper loop rig with a live mackerel down at 150 feet for another white seabass of 30 pounds. Randy also landed a nice 25 pound halibut on a dropper rig in the same area.

On our other San Quintin charter fishing boat, Offshore II, Capt. Oscar had Sid Ochoa and friends fish in the same area, and they got into some good yellowtail action as well as lots of bass and rockfish.
