San Quintin, Mexico:
Good Action For Light Tackle Barracuda Fishing

May 15, 2005, Pete Hillis, Pedro's Pangas, San Quintin, Baja fishing, Mexico:

The mornings at San Quintin have been overcast this week. The sun starts to get through at about 11 a.m. and the temperatures warm to a nice mid-70s in the afternoon. There has been a light, steady breeze all week long, but it has not hampered the fishing.

This week we had 10 boats out fishing at San Quintin. Fishing with us were Robert Boyle, Palm Springs, and John Boyle, Lakeside, Montana, traveling with Connor Boyle, Missoula, Montana. They fished 2 days on the Paloma with Capt. Miguel. They brought in good limits of rockcod, lingcod, and barracuda. Of special note, the Montana Boyles are avid fly fishermen and this was their first time on the ocean. They had a blast landing the barracuda using light spinning outfits.

The giant squid have all but disappeared. There were only 2 brought in this week by San Quintin fishing boats.
