LOTS OF YELLOWTAIL CAUGHT DURING FLY-IN TRIP
TO LA BOCANA WITH PEDRO SORS OF CAÑA Y CARRETE
Sept. 21, 2005, Julio Meza, La Bocana, Baja fishing trip report, Mexico:
On Sunday I flew to La Bocana to film a fishing show for the national TV Televisa with the show host Pedro Sors about Meros, Garropas and Jurel fishing with Capt. Juanchys and Paco Zuñiga, at La Bocana, landing lots and lots of Jureles up to 30 pounds, 5 Garropas of 15, 25, 30, 70 and 80 pounds using Krocodiles and Salas jigs, and 1 out of 2 meros hookups.
It was another great Baja fishing trip. This time we fished with Capt. Juanchys (011-52-615-156-0145) from La Bocana, Baja California Sur. With my friend Pedro Sors of the Caña y Carrete fishing show, we flew from Tijuana all the way down to Abreojos on Sunday afternoon to fish Monday and try for Meros, Garropas and Jureles.
We landed lots and lots of yellowtail up to 30 pounds with everything you put on the water, and the 5 Garropas at Roca Ballena in 40 to 50 feet of water. Later with a big bag of bonitas we fished La Gringa bank in 120 to 140 feet of water for a nice Mero estimated on 180 pounds and a lost bigger fish after a 30 minute fight.
It was great fishing, with excellent fresh sea food, beautiful weather, the best Capt. Juanchys. His name is Juan Francisco but his nick name is Juanchys. He works at the cooperativa Progreso where they fish commercially and we are telling the people sportfishing is better for the pocket, for the fish, and for the future. If these people move over to sportfishing the fish are going to last longer.
