QUITE A BAJA FISHING EXPERIENCE
WITH CAPT. LEE MORENO AT CAMALU
Jan. 14, 2006, Donald Rubi, Camalu, Baja California, Mexico:
I just got back from Camalu and let me tell you it was quite an experience. Personally I have never caught so many fish in a two day time period. Two days of absolutely fantastic Baja panga fishing with Capt. Lee "Perico" Moreno.
Fishing aboard the Tania 1 with my good friends Robert Villar and Marco Lopez, we proceeded to catch what we estimated to be about 80 fish including: red snapper, "chocolates" (a type of bottom fish), salmon grouper, rock cod, and "Mexican limits" of sand bass up to 7 pounds and calico bass. And that was only the first days haul!
On the second day of Baja fishing, collectively we again caught an estimated 80 bottom dwellers which included red rockcod, whitefish up to 5 pounds, sheephead, sand bass, lingcod, and a 15 pound yellowtail which Marco Lopez caught off the bottom using a strip of squid.
Our bait included live mackerel, fresh dead squid, and various jigs. Mega baits working very well. I cannot tell enough about the expertise, uncanny wit, and Camalu fishing experience in Baja that Lee "Perico" Moreno has to offer. My buddies and I all agree that this was one of our greatest fishing ventures and are already making plans to return. It was certainly worth the drive. I would recommend to anyone thinking about fishing down in Camalu, to go see Mr. Moreno. You will not be disappointed in the least!
He did give me his son's email address where you can reach him: eliuth85@hotmail.com He also gave me two phone numbers, 011-52-616-163-0767 and 011-52-616-107-3126.
