BIG WAHOO ON BAJA FISHING RUN TO PUNTA ARENA DE LA VENTANA

June 30, 2006, California, Mexico, Amy Williams:

We had our annual Baja trip to Punta Arena de la Ventana, south of La Paz on June 10-27, 2006. In the 13 years we have made this Baja trip, this was the best weather and the warmest, clearest water by far.

The average water temperature was in the low 80's with air temperature's in the mid-90's to 100-plus on a couple of the hottest days.

We camped in our usual spot at Punta Arena de la Ventana, in the sand just south of the fish camp, near the lighthouse.

The fishing was also stellar. My husband, Ray Williams, caught a 70 pound wahoo with Mike McClune on McClune's boat, The Oso Loco, on June 13th, just off the south end of Cerralvo Island at Roca Montana on a trolled Rapala.

Various other wahoo were caught on the trip from 30 to 50 pounds. A 50 pound bull dorado was caught by Ray while fishing with me on our boat, The Avalon, on June 25th, about 1 mile out from the south end of Cerralvo Island on a trolled black and red marlin jig, after catching 5 smaller dorado on live bait at the buoys. We camped with our dog, Pup. She adopted us at our casita in Campo de Lorenzo in San Quintin 3 years ago.
