A GOOD THREE DAYS OF MIXED FISHING ACTION WITH
CAPT. IGOR GALVAN OF BAHIA DE LOS ANGELES

June 29, 2004, Jim Howard, Bahia de los Angeles fishing, Baja California, Mexico:

Fish report at L.A. Bay for the week of June 21. My friends and myself spent the week at Guellermos right on the water. The hospitality and food was great. We spent the last 3 days of our trip fishing with capitan Igor Galvan on his super panga.

All 3 days were different, the 1st day was a wide open surface bite of yellowtail in the 12 to 20 Lb class with birds crashing and fish boiling. They were inside the bay and just outside the first islands on a high spot on the reef.

The 2nd day we found no birds so we went to the north end of Smith and fished the dropper loop with 10 ounces of lead and nailed yellows in the 40lb class.

The 3rd day was unreal after 2 great days we didnt think it would get better but we shot outside and fished a reef in 200 ft of water with the dropper loop. We caught a mix of white seabass 20 to 30lbs more big yellows and grouper up to 60lbs. Every day we spent 1 to 2 hrs making macks for bait, it was worth it.

Igor's boat holds plenty of bait for 4 guys, and we needed it., there wasnt to much going for the iron. This was our 1st time back to the Bay in 20 years, it hasnt changed too much. Fishing with Igor was killer, he knows his stuff and his boat is fast and comfortable. We took pictures but I haven't seen them yet, I hope they all come out especially the grouper. The weather was real nice 80 to 85 during the day and pleasant at night

I fished with Dan Mueller, Jim Davilla, Robb Kolb, Dave Sawzak and Phill Cecachi. We are from Garden Grove and Riverside Ca. We also rented a regular panga and fished different guys in it every day. The smaller panga caught half as many fish because it got on the spot late and Igor had to feed them bait, but it worked out real well. We got bait in a different spot every day because the barries were chasing the macks all over. We got them in front of the hotel out by the old relic, then out in the channel in front of the light house and at the far south east end of the bay close to the beach. With binoculars you could see the bait balls moving around. The water temp was 72 to 74. We fished out at Lagaurdia that was as far as we got.
