BAHIA DE LOS ANGELES DIVING AND
FISHING TRIP OUT OF LOS VIENTOS
Aug. 1, 2004, Bob Murphy, Bahia De Los Angeles, Baja California, Mexico Fishing:
Seven good friends fished at Bahia de los Angeles, via fishing rods and spear guns, from July 28th to August 1. All were from South Orange County. Greg Robison and Bob Murphy organized the trip and it was a fantastic time for everyone.
We stayed at Los Vientos where Anna and her team prepared our day's catch with style and flavor.
The water was a little blue/green in the bay. Plankton was abounding and the blue water struggled to dominate.
Out in the channel we experienced deep blue, clear water. Diving visibility was from 20' to 50' feet and even better in some places.
The water temps were around 80 degrees everywhere we fished. A lot of yellowtail in the 10 to 15 pound class. No lunkers but volume was good. Also some Skippies and barries. Caught a few good Cabrilla and Grouper.
Spear fishing was excellent. Several grouper, one about 25 pounds. Scallops and clams. We ate like kings. Released a lot of fish. It was a great trip.
Our diving locations from this last trip: 1. North end of Smith Island 2. Southwest quadrant of la Guarda 3. South tip of Piojo
We fished all around these places. Also, the back side of Smith.
Guillermo's Superpanga was the ticket. Jose skippered for three days and did a great job. He put us on a great dive spot. It reminded me of the old days.
The weather was excellent. 95 to 100 in the day and cooling breezes at night made it completely bearable. I heard that Dorado are showing south of Angel De La Guarda!
