AN "UNFORGETTABLE" BAJA TRIP TO BAHIA DE LOS
ANGELES FULL OF STRONG WINDS AND MISHAPS

April 15, 2005, Elijah Hayward, Bahia de los Angeles, Baja California, Mexico:

My father, Bob Hayward of Fallbrook returned from an unforgettable trip to our Baja Fish Patrol headquarters at Bahia de los Angeles (L.A. Bay) last week. The wind was blowing nearly every day, so they couldn't launch the boat for 3 days. When they did get a chance, my father's 4x4 Dodge truck got stuck in the sand while attempting to launch from our beach. They went out fishing the next day and nearly didn't make it back across the bay due to some of the roughest conditions they've ever been in. And we've had some rough ones! One of the local neighbors, Larry, made a new "super duper" mooring and had my dad moor the boat on that one instead of our "old reliable." After a long night of pounding wind, they woke up on April Fool's Day to find our 21 foot Bay Runner capsized and sunk. A full effort of the neighborhood gringos finally got the destroyed boat out of the water, while wrecking my father's new electric winch on his truck. Some adventure. Glad I missed that one!
