SLOW SPRING FISHING IN WARMING WEATHER
CONDITIONS FOR ANGLERS AT BAHIA DE LOS ANGELES

May 1, 2005, Abraham Vazquez, Camp Gecko, Bahia de los Angeles, Baja California, Mexico:

It looks like Bahia de los Angeles (L.A. Bay) weather will finally start warming up in the mid 80s. It has been very windy up to now, out of the west and cold in the 60s, but the last few days have been warm and not much wind.

The fishing at Bahia de los Angeles continues to be slow. There are no yellowtail in the Bahia de los Angeles sportfishing area at all yet, and the grouper that the boats were bringing back are too far to go with bad weather.

The fishing water temperature at Bahia de los Angeles is still cold at 60-62 degrees, cooler than San Diego at the moment.

There are a few triggerfish starting to show up and most of the catch has been bottom fish.

The gas station is still not open, but all is ready, even the bags of sabritas, so it should open up soon. The road to Bahia de los Angeles is in great shape.

The state government is fighting us locals and CONANP, against the proposed biosphere reserve, because they don't want to sacrifice their interests in the escalera nautica, La Gringa marina, and golf course, 500 condos, and so on, in exchange for protecting our environment and bay, from them of course. It sounds crazy. It is usually the other way around. Anyway, fishing should start picking up soon.

I have been working on the Gecko IV, getting it to be a fishing boat. Maybe by the end of May it will be ready. Unless they can come up with termites that eat fiberglass, I think I am safe this time.
