MIXED SIZE YELLOWTAIL FISHING IS STEADY AT
L.A. BAY'S ISLANDS SMITH, PIOJO, AND HORSEHEAD

July 8, 2005, Abraham Vazquez, Camp Gecko, Bahia de los Angeles fishing, Baja California, Mexico village report:

The fishing at Bahia de los Angeles (L.A. Bay) has improved a bit from last week. The water temperature inside Bahia de los Angeles is 81 degrees, and 75 to 78 degrees outside. There is lots of bait again, and the yellowtail are still going strong on the Piojo reefs and Horse Head reef. Yellowtail fishing is also good at Smith Island. There is very much a wide open bite for yellows but the keepers have to be selected. Sea lions are still a problem in the Bahia de los Angeles area. There are giant squid also in the area. The yellowtail have been good on live bait and on the iron. There is still a good grouper bite and some 40-pound yellows at Coronadito. There are also reports of dorado showing up in the area of Isla Partida south of Bahia de los Angeles, and wide open at San Francisquito. The air temperature has been in the low to hi 90's and 80's at night. Some days are very humid and with wind from the southeast and some days hot and dry from the west. The mosquitoes we had for 4 days are all gone.
