BAIT SCARCE AND FISHING SLOW DURING
BAJA TRAILER BOAT TRIP TO BAHIA DE LOS ANGELES
July 17, 2005, Barry Anderson, Bahia de los Angeles, Baja California, Mexico Fishing Trip:
I and my son Chase just returned from a 12 day trip to Bahia de los Angeles (L.A. Bay), Loreto, and San Quintin towing our new Donzi 30-foot Center Console.
Fishing on the Sea of Cortez side was extremely slow, with just a few decent yellows mixed in with all the firecrackers. Loads of jumbo squid were prevalent all over. San Quintin provided the best action, with limits of big reds, lingcod, and halibut. Don Eddie's was packed with boats heading out for the big lings.
In Bahia de los angeles, we stayed at Casa Diaz. The weather was beautiful and hot, but the water was cold. We fished Smith Cut, Chalk Bluffs, and Horsehead. Fishing was extremely slow all around, with bait very difficult to make. Most fishing was on iron, and only a handful of decent fish were caught. Lots of firecracker yellows. The water is just way cold. We fished there 5 days. The weather was absolutely gorgeous.
