DORADO RELEASES ITSELF FROM ICE CHEST
Aug. 15, 2006, Alejandro Rosas, Villa Vitta fishing tournament:
There's not a lot of sportfishing action at Bahia de los Angeles, but the Villa Vitta's Third Annual Fishing tournament was a success.
We had nine, three-anglers-per-boat teams competing in the tournament. The proceeds will permit us to finish "La Casa del Maestro."
The fishing days were Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 12-13, 2006.
Bahia de los Angeles weather was perfect. Sea conditions were as flat as a swimming pool. All the participants stayed at Villa Vitta. The service, food and air conditioning were close to perfect. I thought I was dreaming. They had water in the swimming pool. The facilities need some fixing. Hope Adrian, the manager, keeps his promise that all will be repaired for next year's tournament.
The winner of the tournament was Alfonso Martinez with a 32 pound Grouper or Garropa taken at the south tip of Angel de la Guarda Island aboard the boat "La Unica" with skipper Fermin Ocampo, who is Samuel Diaz' son-in-law.
The winning team with a total weight of 84 pounds combined bottom and surface fishing included Alfonso Martinez, Elias Castro and Oscar Benson aboard the same boat.
The weather at Bahia was about 82 to 84 degrees, too cold, and the water temperature was 76 degrees, incredible, the same as in Ensenada.
Some teams caught some small dorado at the south tip of the island.
One of the teams caught the biggest dorado, around 35 pounds. They put it in the boat's ice chest. All of a sudden a big swell hit the boat. With the movement, the ice chest opened and the dorado jumped out, moving all over the panga, and finally jumps into the water. They thought they had won the tournament.
