June 30, 2006, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, Mexico:
El Cid Caribe Fleet manager Mario Anzoategui reported that he personally lost a big blue marlin this week, while taking a busman's holiday from the office. Angler Stan Martin, fishing aboard the El Cid Caribe Fleet charter fishing boat "Pescadora II" showed him how, releasing 2 blue marlin and landing 3 dorado for 2 fishing days.
Overall, the fleet reported for 10 Cancun area fishing days and reflected 2 blue marlin released, 1 white marlin released, 1 sailfish released, 5 dorado, 9 barracuda and 1 grouper. The grouper was taken on the troll, while fishing for the barracudas.
Cancun sportfishing area weather had 80 degree nights to 93 degree daytime high's, and was mostly cloudy and humid. Sea conditions in the Cancun area had easterly surface breezes of 8-12 knots, and sea temperatures stable at 83-84 degrees throughout the area. The deep water artificials were productive in the inshore waters for the barracuda and the ballyhoo rigged baits were best for the offshore waters.
