EL CID CARIBE OFFSHORE BOATS FISHING IN ADVERSE CONDITIONS

July 14, 2006, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico:

It was a difficult fishing week for the Puerto Morelos area near Cancun that included a couple of port closure days and adverse weather conditions. This rough weather combined with the full moon did not bode well for Cancun sportfishing area anglers this week and all trips but one were of 4-hour durations that targeted the inshore fishing.

A total of 8 outings by El Cid Caribe fleet charter boats reflected 1 white marlin released, 1 wahoo, 6 barracudas, 7 dog toothed snappers and a couple of groupers.

Cancun area weather early in the week was cloudy with thunderstorms and wind, but settled at week's end to 50-50 conditions, sunny and cloudy, with temperatures from 80 degree nights to 93 daytime highs. At the end of the week sea conditions off Cancun had surface breezes of 8-14 knots from the east, with water temperatures ranging from 83 to 84 degrees. The only offshore day produced the white marlin just 4 miles out of the Marina. It was taken on a rigged ballyhoo bait.
