East Cape, Mexico

LOTS OF TUNA OF 10 TO 15 POUNDS AVAILABLE
ABOUT 30 MILES OFF THE LIGHTHOUSE

June 5, 2004, John Ireland, Rancho Leonero fishing, East Cape, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

Great weather all week at East Cape, with mild mornings near 70 and warmer days in the low 90's, with steady water temp 78-80 deg, with calm, clear blue water outside, with some green water inside. Lots of fish in the Cortez, but very picky biters outside. The inshore bite remains wide open. Lots of squid in the East Cape area is affecting the blue water bite, with a wide open outside bite early in the week slowing by the weekend.

Billfish - The East Cape striped marlin bite is spread, with lots of tailers 1-20 miles off La Ribera and Punta Pescadero, taking almost exclusively live caballitos.

Dorado - a so-so bite, but nice-sized quality fish this week, closer inside with fish to 50lbs under structure.

Tuna - lots of fish averaging 10-15lbs (with some bigger fish mixed in) concentrated about 30 miles off the lighthouse, under porpoise. Fish are taking live bait, hoochies, trolled lures and cedar plugs.

Inside - the hot East Cape roosterfish bite continues, with fish from 10-60lbs very active off all area beaches, taking live sardinas and caballitos. Pargo and jack crevalle biting well off the reefs from Leonero to the lighthouse.

Fisherman of the Week - our in-house mechanic, Sergio, took a 50lb roosterfish while fishing from our rolling dock.
