EAST CAPE DORADO ACTION INCLUDES AN OUTING
FOR DORADO OF 45, 52, AND 58 POUNDS
June 26, 2004, Bill Burkett, Los Barriles, Mexico:
We're having a wonderful fishing season here on the East Cape. Palmas Bay is teaming with fish. The Dorado that had been absent for so long have finally shown up in numbers. And, to make us all even happier, there have been a lot of large fish caught. One friend of mine caught three fish on his boat on Thursday. They were; 45, 52 and 58 pounds. That's a good day anywhere.
Although my boat, Fat Cat, has not been so fortunate with the large Dorado, we have caught a couple of 25 pounders on each of our last three East Cape trips. We've also caught a couple of Striped Marlin as well. So, were having fun!
Speaking of Striped Marlin, the concentration of fish that were holding just north of the Gordo Banks for the last two weeks, seems to have moved back into our East Cape waters, as the cold currents have brought water temperatures down to 78-79 degrees near the light house at Punta Arena. There are lots of Marlin in the area again and their biting well. Water temps. in the area are ranging from 78 to 83 degrees.
The Blue Marlin are also showing in increasing numbers at East Cape. Several are caught each day now at East Cape. We saw one on Thursday that was truly of "Old Man of the Sea" proportions. Although it was free jumping further away from me than another boat (a panga), it still looked larger than the panga!! And, they're 23 feet long! I guess the skipper of the panga didn't want any part of the monster, as he kept trolling away from the fish. I didn't hurry over to try and catch it either, as I haven't put the heavy tackle on board yet and 40 lb. gear is too small for fish like that.
All and all, it's great to be in Baja!
