DORADO, STRIPERS, AND SAILFISH ACTION WITHIN
SIGHT OF HOTELS IN EAST CAPE'S FISHING VACATION AREA

July 15, 2004, Axel Valdez, Buena Vista Beach Resort, East Cape hotel fleet fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

Total boats fishing: 55. Caught and/or released: Blue Marlin, 6; Striped Marlin, 11; Sailfish, 9; Dorado, 142; Tuna, 26; Wahoo, 1; Roosterfish, 8; Shark, 2; Snapper, 6; Jack Crevalle, 1; Amberjack, 3; Bonita, 12; Ladyfish, 1; Pompano 2; Triggerfish, 10; Skip Jack, 11; Needle fish, 2.

East Cape Weather: 94 - 99 degrees. Water Temperature, 81 - 84. It is getting more humid, and you may feel like is hotter, but it is not. It has been in the high 90's without reaching the 100's yet. But I am sure we will get there soon.

East Cape Water: Nice conditions even with the small storm that went by the conditions of the water didn't change much.

Fishing Spots and Distance: East Cape Tuna and blues are a further run, stripers and sails a little closer, and dorado, well just ask our friend John Ireland from Rancho Leonero, we can see the boats from our resorts.

East Cape Offshore fishing is very close for almost everything, but going for tuna and blues is a little longer ride (up to 1:45 boat ride) down by the Meganos Blancos or North/East, still most boats that venture our normally come with some tuna. Dorado it is very close and with a late bite, nice middle size dorados, and of course two or more bigger to 50 lbs.

East Cape Inshore Fishing is for Good size roosters just have to have the patience to go after them, and as well as good size jacks. Pargo is being caught a little farther from the beach but still very close in front of La Rivera. All around great fishing.

Successful Lures: Petrolero (brown with orange and little gray), Chivato (Yellow, orange, with black stripes), Purpura (black with purple) are the best. I won't change them as they continue to be hot.

Bait Used: Some mackerel, caballitos and the sardine was not as good as last week, it seems to be very small, captains opting better to stay with the mackerel. Dorados are eating chum too, therefore no need of sardine.

Highlight of the Week: Dorado, and we started to see bigger tuna, and the numbers of blues just continue to be better.
