July 29, 2004, Axel Valdez, Buena Vista Beach Resort fish report, East Cape, Baja Sur, Mexico:

Roosterfish 3. Shark 1. Snapper 47 Jack Crevalle 2. Amberjack 2. Bonita 10. Pompano 2. Triggerfish 10. Cabrilla 4. Skip Jack 12. Needle fish 20.

East CapeWater Temperature: East Cape water continues to be at it best, with regular temperatures in the mid 80's.

Air Temperature: Nice weather, hot, but very nice since the breeze helps a lot.

East Cape Fishing Spots and Distance: Fishing our bay continues to be the best beat for almost anything. We will see this coming week as the Bisbee will have boats looking further for bigger fish.

Off-shore East Cape Fishing: Early in the week, 3 tunas over 100 lbs, and one up to 185lbs. But it was an 11.6 lbs tuna the one that won the cash during our Big Game Blowout Tournament. Tuna came back later in the week, but only three were weighted in during our tournament. But it was our friends and neighbors Mr. and Mrs. Woody the ones that impressed everyone as they caught and released 2 blues and took the dorado jack pot with a very nice 47.6 lbs dorado, this is all it took to have them as our winners of this year Big Game Blowout.

In-shore East Cape Fishing: I don't know if we should call it in-shore fishing, but the dorado continue to be caught way close to our beaches. It has also been great for smaller species. Ronnie Kovach, Steve Carson and Beverly Saltzer were down this past week and they had extremely good in-shore fishing.

Successful Lures: Petrolero (brown with orange and little gray), Chivato (Yellow, orange, with black stripes), Purpura (black with purple) are the best. I won't change them as they continue to be hot. NO CHANGE HERE AGAIN!!

Bait Used: Some makcerel, caballitos and the sardine. Sardine back to its normal. East Cape Captains this past week requested more ballyhood as they were really handy for dorado and stripers.

Highlight of the Week: The highlight has to go to the big tunas caught early in the week. One boat with up to two over a 100 lbs tunas in the Vamonos and the 185 caught by our friend Mr. Jeff Simms. Also we cannot leave them out, our friends and neighbors Mr. and Mrs. Woody as they were fishing by themselves. They almost took everything in the tournament, with their 2 blues and their big dorado.
