BAJA KAYAK FISHING TRIP PRODUCES GOOD RESULTS
ON TUNA AND DORADO AT EAST CAPE

Aug. 21, 2004, Dennis Spike, Coastal Kayak Fishing, Rancho Leonero, East Cape kayak fishing trip report, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

We fished August 12-18. The water was in the 80's, a little cooler than usual with blue water in close and lots of currents holding fish, rays and plate size jellies.

Our Baja kayak fishing group consisted of 16 anglers from as far away as Maine.

We caught mostly yellowfin tuna and dorado. MANY big fish were lost on this trip, more than usual. Peggy Johnston had the big fish, a dorado, that went 25# and was an awesome airborne catch. You don't have to go far for the dorado and we caught several tuna launching off the beach.

Everyone on this East Cape fishing trip wanted to fish the blue water for tuna and dorado, notably declining a huge marlin and sailfish bite, so we didn't really do much of anything inshore. One Baja billfish, a sail, was hooked and it spit after a jump or 2. A marlin also free jumped behind the kayaks at a high spot.

The guides prepared sashimi every night from yellowfin, black skipjack and bonita. Delish! A whole pargo was had for dinner, stuffed and steamed.

The diving right out front was spectacular with thick silver schools of small pompano mixed in. News: We have 2 East Cape, Baja California Sur, fishing trips in October on the 12-15th and 17-20th. The schedule is published at Kayakfishing.com.
