DORADO TO 25 POUNDS FOUND SCHOOLING
OFF EAST CAPE'S PUNTA ARENA LIGHTHOUSE
East Cape Fishing, Roy Baldwin, Rancho Leonero, Mexico Sept. 4, 2004:
Warm East Cape fishing weather early in the week, with mornings in the low 70's and afternoon highs to the low-90s, with several days of overcast and showers over the weekend, with warm water temp 86-90 deg. The wide-open East Cape tuna and dorado bite continues, with limits for all anglers. East Cape fishing action is very spread, with fish from Punta Pescadero down to Los Frailes.
East Cape Billfish - the bite was slower this week, with sailfish, striped marlin and blue marlin spread throughout the bay. Live mackerel presented to tailing fish and trolled squid colored lures working best.
East Cape Dorado - schooling fish off the Punta Arena lighthouse, with fish averaging 15-25 bs, taking mostly live sardinas and hoochies, limits for all. Big bulls to 50 lbs outside, taking trolled lures.
East Cape Yellowfin Tuna - the hot bite continues. Tuna under porpoise, 10-15 miles straight out from Leonero, with fish from 15-50lbs taking live bait, hoochies and cedar plugs. All boats limiting out.
East Cape Wahoo - several wahoo this week, mostly on trolled lures, from Cabo Pulmo south to Los Frailes.
Inside - no pressure at all, with a few released roosterfish to 40lbs.
Fisherman of the Week - Robert Schlidt of Casper, WY, while fishing 3 days on a cruiser, took limits of tuna to 35lbs and dorado to 25lbs.
