EAST CAPE FISHING REPORT FOR THREE DAYS
ON THE CHARTER BOAT PETUNIA WITH CAPT. MARTIN COLLINS
East Cape, Mexico Fishing, Don Anderson, Sept. 1, 2004:
Got back from East Cape Sunday night. Fished 3 days at East Cape on Miss Petunia with Captain Martin Collins. East Cape fishing weather was hot but nice for August. A few rain squalls. Water temp 88 deg. F and mostly calm.
The first and third days were a little slow but on the second day (August 26) I got a Blue Marlin, 2 Striped Marlin, 2 Sailfish, and a Dorado.
Those fishing the Porpoise had no trouble getting Tuna but most were small. Martin did get a 198 lb tuna the day before. 4 hours and 3 people pulling on it.
For those obsessed with catch and release, in three days every East Cape billfish flag I saw had a release flag under it. One interesting thing. One of the Sailfish, upon being leadered jumped onto the boat and lay on the rail for a few seconds before flipping off. A warning to be cautious when a fish is boatside. Fished about 15 out east from Punta Colorada.
