EAST CAPE FISHING THIS WEEK IS CLOSER IN BUT A BIT SLOWER
Oct. 16, 2004, Roy Baldwin, Rancho Leonero fishing report, Baja California Sur, East Cape, Mexico:
Nice weather all week, with cool mornings in the upper 60's and warm afternoon highs in the mid 80's, with variable East Cape fishing water temp 82-86 degrees, and some afternoon southeast breezes.
Although East Cape fishing was a bit slower this week, the fish have moved back closer inside, with sailfish, yellowfin tuna, dorado, pargo & roosterfish all active.
Yellowfin tuna - the tuna hole, about a mile off Cabo Pulmo, has been producing most of the tuna, with larger fish way south, near Punta Gordo. Tuna 10-60 lbs taking mostly live sardinas, mackerel, hoochies and cedar plugs.
Dorado - mixed in with the tuna off Pulmo, with fish from 15-45 lbs taking mostly live bait, with some larger fish taken on marlin lures outside.
Billfish - mostly sailfish, spread throughout the bay, from 5-10 miles out, taking live mackerel and sardinas.
Inside East Cape fishing - no pressure, but some nice roosterfish to 40 lbs, cruising off most area beaches, from Leonero to the lighthouse. Slow trolled live sardinas and caballitos working best. Dennis Spike's kayak fishing group doing well, taking dorado, tuna, grouper, pargo and roosterfish.
