EAST CAPE KAYAK FISHING TRIP PRODUCES ACTION
ON TUNA, WAHOO, SAILFISH, AND DORADO

Oct. 13, 2004, Jim Sammons, La Jolla Kayak Fishing, East Cape Kayak Fishing Trip Report, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

On our last kayak fishing trip of the year to Hotel Punta Colorada in Baja's East Cape October 5-12, a group of kayak fishing anglers experienced great East Cape fishing for large Dorado and tuna. The trip was capped by two Sailfish and a Wahoo. Jon Shein caught the first Sail while drifting a sardina three miles off the beach in front of the hotel. He got the fish to leader next to the kayak when the line broke. The second sail was landed by Adrian Sharp who hooked his fish on a live Mackerel. He fought the fish for thirty minutes on a Shimano spinning reel loaded with thirty pound test an no leader. With an assist by Sammons the sail was pulled across the laps of the two paddlers for a photo, then released. The sail was estimated to weigh 85lbs.

We had eight anglers on this East Cape trip, fishing six full days plus two half days, mostly within three miles of shore. We always have a Panga with us as a support vessel.

Some of the best East Cape fishing conditions I have ever seen down there. Water was over 80 and flat calm every day. We have the kayaks all rigged for fishing at the Hotel Punta Colorada.

Several of the guys used fly rods on this trip with limited success. Most of the fish were landed on bait.
