EAST CAPE CHARTER FISHING BOATS MAKING
LONG RUNS SOUTH FOR TUNA AND MARLIN
Oct. 22-28, 2004, Axel Valdez, Buena Vista Beach Resort sportfishing, Baja California Sur, East Cape, Mexico:
Total boats out: 60. Fishermen: 120. Weather Temperature: Mid 80's to low 90's. Water Temperature: 83- 85. Catch including released fish: Striped Marlin 9. Sailfish 18. Dorado 128. Tuna 176. Wahoo 1. Snapper 17. Jack Crevalle 1. Amberjack 1. Bonita 44. Triggerfish 2. Skip Jack 21. Sierra 5.
East Cape water Temperature: Even though it rained a few days, temperature of our waters continue to be great in the low to mid 80's. Not bad for late in the season.
Air Temperature: It couldn't be nicer, well except for the rainy days, Monday and Tuesday, which by the way it is very rare. We did have a day where it was rough in the morning and some of the other hotels didn't go out, but we did, and it all worked out as everybody had a great calm day. But thereafter, it was nice and beautiful with great fishing.
East Cape Fishing Spots and Distance: Most of the East Cape fishing has been down South, with distances depending on what you want to catch, if you want big tuna, it is a long run, marlin about 30 miles, but if what you want is action, just go to the Pescaderos in front of La Rivera and you will have plenty.
Off-shore Fishing: Tuna and dorado most of the week, even with the rain, it is great to hear stories of fishing under the rain, there were some marlin caught that way, but since it wasn't too much wind it was great to fish. Marlin were a little further out, the sails were everywhere and no-where, but good numbers all around.
In-shore Fishing: Not too much as the rainy days made the inshore a little dirty. Even though we had several East Cape fishing boats trying and being successful.
Successful Lures: Mostly live bait used this week, but the guys trying for billfish are using all the Baja colors.
Bait Used: A little scarce during the rainy days. But not too much to worry as East Cape fishing continues to be great.
Highlight of the Week: Mr. Cooper came to fly-fish and he said he was averaging about 4 hook ups in the fly.
