ONE FISH LANDED ON SEVEN STRIKES OFF PUNTA
PESCADERO MEXICO WITH CAPT. MIGUEL
Nov. 14, 2004, John Migeot, East Cape, Baja California Sur fishing, Mexico:
After two days of fishing at San Jose del Cabo, we arrive at Rancho Leonero, and the north wind is howling.
Day three, we go fishing with Miguel in his East Cape super panga. We cannot find bait anywhere and elect to go north to Punta Pescadero without bait. That turned out to be a big mistake. We had seven strikes on our lures but ended up with only one small Dorado. My worst record ever. Not only that, but we are completely drenched from the large waves.
To make matters worse, when we get back to the Ranch, Dr. June shows up with photos of a 300 pound Blue Marlin and a 50 pound Dodo that she just released. This 100 pound O.B. from San Diego spanked us all. Sorry Miguel, you put us on the fish, we just couldn't keep em pinned.
Day four, we opt for an East Cape cruiser. Good choice, the wind is really blowing. Transferring to and from the boat is quite exciting. We fish with Manuel and Brian. We pick up Mackerel right in front of the ranch and then head back north. We nail three nice East Cape Dorado, 8-35 lbs and a 100 pound Striped Marlin, that we released. All the fish were caught on live bait. Thank you guys, but I think I will still stick to the pangas when possible. The winds kept us from snorkeling and kayaking but we still had a wonderful trip and met some great folks. The food at the ranch was awesome and the hospitality unequaled.
