WINDY WINTER FISHING CONDITIONS ARRIVE IN THE EAST CAPE VACATION AREA

Nov. 13, 2004, Gary Barnes-Webb, Rancho Leonero, East Cape sportfishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

Winter conditions have arrived at East Cape, with intermittent north wind. Cool mornings about 70 deg and warm afternoon highs in the 80s, with water temp around 80 degrees. Good East Cape fishing most of the week, with happy anglers and plenty of good bait available. Striped marlin, blue marlin, sailfish, dorado, sierra and roosterfish all being taken.

Billfish -- A good bite for striped & blue marlin, as well as sailfish. East Cape action was concentrated 10-15 miles straight off Leonero, with most fishing boats in the area scoring, with live mackerel and darker colored trolled lures working best.

Dorado -- Lots of smaller fish 7-11 pounds close inshore, with some big bulls to 45 pounds lurking off the East Cape buoys at Punta Pescadero, taking mostly live sardinas, mackerel and hoochies.

Yellowfin Tuna -- the East Cape bite was off this week, with some fish at the tuna hole off Cabo Pulmo. Average 5-10 lbs with some larger fish mixed in, with live sardinas producing best.

Inside -- Roosterfish more active from La Ribera to the lighthouse, with some sierra mixed in, slow trolled live bait working best.
