MEXICO NOVEMBER BILLFISH ACTION
CONTINUES FOR EAST CAPE VACATIONERS

Nov. 27, 2004, John Ireland, Rancho Leonero fishing, East Cape, Baja California, Mexico:

Typical November weather at East Cape, with cool mornings in the upper 60s and warm afternoon highs about 80, with calm mornings, breezy afternoons and cooler sea water temperatures 77-80 degrees. Exceptional East Cape fishing for this time of year, with dorado everywhere, lots of billfish outside, some tuna and a wide open inshore bite.

The billfish bite continues at East Cape, with blue, black and striped marlin, along with sailfish concentrated 3-15 miles straight off Leonero. All East Cape boats targeting billfish scoring, with live mackerel and all trolled baits working best. A 400-pound black marlin was released this week.

Dorado: All you want at East Cape, with lots of schools everywhere close inshore, averaging 20 pounds with some big bulls to 40 pounds mixed in, taking mostly live sardinas, mackerel and hoochies.

Tuna: Football-sized yellowfin under porpoise, spread throughout the bay, with an on-and-off bite.

Wahoo: Lots of cut lines, with East Cape wahoo within 1 mile of the beach, straight out in front of Leonero, with fish to 40 pounds taking slow trolled live mackerel.

Inside: Roosterfish biting aggressively from Leonero to the lighthouse, with increasing numbers of sierra taken, slow trolled live bait working best.
