SOME CALM DAY ROOSTERFISH ARE BITING
FROM RANCHO LEONERO TO THE PUNTA ARENA LIGHTHOUSE

Dec. 4, 2004, Roy Baldwin, Rancho Leonero fishing report, East Cape, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

Typical winter weather, with cool mornings in the 60s and afternoon highs in the mid-70s, with partly cloudy, windy conditions most of the week, settling down by the weekend, and cooling water temp 75-77 degrees. With the windy conditions, only a few boats fished this week, with dorado the primary catch.

Billfish: With the windy conditions, few boats ventured outside this week, but those that did found blue and striped marlin, along with a few sailfish concentrated about 10 miles straight off Leonero. Most fish taken on trolled lures.

Dorado: Lots of dorado schools close inshore, averaging 15 pounds with some big bulls to 40 pounds mixed in, taking mostly live sardinas, mackerel and hoochies.

Inside: On the calm days, roosterfish biting aggressively from Leonero to the lighthouse, with increasing numbers of sierra taken, slow trolled live bait working best.
