MIXED SPECIES FISHING AT PUNTA COLORADA
FOR VARIABLE ACTION ON MANY TYPES OF FISH
Dec. 4, 2004, Peter Langstraat, East Cape, Punta Colorada Species Fishing Trip Report, Baja Calfornia Sur, Mexico:
I was in the Punta Colorada area from Oct. 9 until Nov. 18. I fished mainly from the beach and 2 to 3 hours each time.
Fishing was consistently inconsistent. One time it was easy to catch them in double digits, the next time there would be nothing at all on the same spot. However at the end of my vacation it turned out that my average was higher than ever before. Well, if you have some sessions with 17 to 22 fish per time it can go up quite a bit. As expected the main catch was Ladyfish (151). Needlefish (38) and Jacks (23) were also very present.
With live mullet I caught a few bigger Jacks from the beach, including one of 37 inches and around 24 pounds. On a 25-pound line the fish managed to fight some 30 minutes.
I also caught 3 Roosterfish, all around 25 inches in length.
New species for me were a Mexican Hogfish, a Cape Razorfish (Wrasse family), and a Smoothtail Mobula Ray.
