BIG SIERRA CAUGHT IN WINDY WEATHER CONDITIONS
THIS WEEK AT EAST CAPE'S LA RIBERA

Jan. 16, 2005, Russ Fritz, La Ribera, East Cape, Baja Sur, Mexico:

Since the New Year, fishing on the East Cape has been "under the weather." The wind has kept most East Cape fishing boats beach bound, so the fish are getting a rest from hook pressure. I have been able to fish only 6 days since Jan. 1, and have gotten 11 yellowfin tuna, 17 dorado (mahi-mahi), and 7 huge sierra. The Sierra are all big this year at East Cape, but not as numerous as in years past. The dorado are mostly small, only 10 pounds or so, with several in the 20+ pound range. The Tuna at East Cape have all been from 20 to 40 pounds, with 2 just over 80 pounds. The East Cape "bite" seems to be between Las Baracas and Los Frailes, with the Sierra in close and the tuna about 2 miles offshore.
