JUST A FEW BOATS FISHED BAJA WATERS THIS WEEK AT EAST CAPE
Feb. 18-24, 2005, Axel Valdez, Buena Vista Beach Resort, East Cape, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
Total boats out 10. Fisherman 33. Weather mid 80s. Water Temperature: 68-72 degrees. Catch including released fish: Striped Marlin 1. Dorado 116. Roosterfish 2. Snapper 1. Amberjack 1. Bonita 2. Yellowtail 1.
East Cape's sea water temperature is a normal for this time. For those thinking of an early El Nino, you may be disappointed, but we'll see.
The weather some days is going up to mid 80s, clouds helped keep some of the wind off during the week, and we even had some rain. Overall it was very nice to go out fishing.
East Cape Fishing Spots and Distance: Since there are not that many boats out there, and the conditions are somewhat stable plus great bait around our bait, fishing has been very close, as close as one mile, specially late in the week.
Offshore East Cape fishing: Early in the week, our fleet was looking for the dead whale found late last week, because it continued to offer a lot of dorado (mahi-mahi). Later in the week the whale disappeared but not the good fishing, even though the dorado were found everywhere in our bay. Arturo mentioned that the marlin are very close, no more than a mile out and everyone starts fishing.
Inshore East Cape fishing: With some roosterfish this past week, it means that Spring is around corner, other that the sierra continues to be around.
Successful lures: Petrolero, and mackerel color lures are working well.
Bait Used: Not much sardine, but plenty of mackerel.
