SOME SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA RAINS REACHING EAST CAPE FISHING WATERS

Feb. 26, 2005, Russ Fritz, La Ribera, Baja California Sur fishing, Mexico:

This week the fishing at East Cape has had a touch of the Southern California storms, enough to keep lots of boats beach-bound. We even had momentary hail in La Ribera, as the thunder and lightning moved through the fishing area. The rain was torrential at times at East Cape, but localized, so it passed within hours.

East Cape's dearly departed whale, has finally drifted out of reach of most smaller sportfishing boats, so we are catching dorado (mahi-mahi) in singles and doubles, but no schoolies. The sierra continue to be large, but not too plentiful.

My visiting friends, Monty and Jade Williams, from Faith, S.D., had 2 great days of fishing on the water at East Cape with me, catching nice dorado and Sierras. Barrilete continue to keep everybody busy between dorado (mahi-mahi) strikes. Monty is a true cowboy, and Jade is one-half Lakota Souix, so this trip proves that "Cowboys and Indians" can fish together. Dorado were caught yesterday, one-half mile off the beach, in the calm between storms, under cloudy skies, and with rain jackets.
