FISHING AT EAST CAPE WAS CLOSE TO THE RESORTS THIS WEEK
Feb. 25-March 3, 2005, Axel Valdez, Buena Vista Beach Resort, East Cape, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
Total East Cape sportfishing boats out, 11. Fishermen 35. Weather 70-80. Water Temperature 72-75. Catch including released fish: Striped Marlin 23. Dorado 15. Roosterfish 1. Shark 2. Snapper 11. Jack Crevalle 1. Amberjack 1. Skip Jack 2. Sierra 9.
East Cape fishing water temperature is getting up there, but we can still feel the winter water temperature.
The air temperature is very nice, even when it blew it was nice to go out fishing, and with the fishing that we had this past week, it was obvious that we were out almost every day.
Fishing at East Cape was close, close very close, in front of La Rivera, in front of Punta Pescadero, you name it, it is very close.
In East Cape offshore fishing we had a first good run of striped marlin this past week, it was a good one to be the first. Some dorado also around but not as much as the past week, when they found the dead whale.
Inshore fishing featured sierra continuing to dominate East Cape action, but we continue to see more and more roosterfish, which is great, also the unsophisticated jack crevalle is around. Overall fishing inshore is back to normal.
The most successful lures were petrolero and bleeding mackerel this past week, with many stripers going for them. Mackerel bait is the best for stripers.
The East Cape sportfishing highlight of the week was 17 striped marlin with 3 boats in a day, not bad for what is supposed to be the off-season, don't you think?
