RANCHO LEONERO FISHING BOATS FIND
STRIPED MARLIN 5 TO 10 MILES OFF THE LIGHTHOUSE

March 12, 2005, John Ireland, Rancho Leonero, East Cape, Baja fishing, Mexico:

East Cape had nice spring fishing weather, with cool mornings in the 60's and afternoon highs to the mid 70's, with calm, clear, sunny days and some afternoon breezes. East Cape had variable water temperatures of 69-71 degrees. Green water inside has pushed the bite a bit further offshore. Dorado and striped marlin are biting outside, while roosterfish, sierra, jacks and pargo are dominating the inside action.

Striped Marlin fishing at East Cape is further outside this week, 5-10 miles off the lighthouse. They are picky biters, taking exclusively live bait.

East Cape Dorado fishing is slower this week, with fish of 10-20 pounds concentrated in the same area as the stripers, off the lighthouse. the fish are biting more selectively, with flylined live bait on light line working best.

Inside fishing had roosterfish biting more aggressively, with sierra and jacks biting from La Ribera south to Las Baracas, taking mostly live bait. Commercial hand-liners are taking pargo on the reefs off La Ribera.
