TRUMPETFISH AND CABRILLA CAUGHT IN TOUGH EAST CAPE FLY FISHING WINDS

March 26, 2005, Lance Petersen, Baja On The Fly, Baja California Sur, East Cape Fly Fishing, Mexico:

Persistent East Cape winds from the north and cool water made fishing tough today (Friday). Nevertheless, my clients cast diligently and relentlessly and managed to land a few trumpetfish and some small cabrilla. We've heard reports of roosterfish at Cardonal, but I did not see any, though we did troll hookless live bait there for about an hour. Offshore fishing at East Cape was "slowish" also, judging by what I heard on the radio. However, there have been some marlin caught at East Cape in the last few days. The only bait is mackerel. There are no sardina to found anywhere yet. I'm waiting for the bite to kick in. East Cape water temperatures are 67-74 degrees, and air temperature 64-71, with scattered clouds.
