OVERALL FISHING ACTION IS SLIGHTLY IMPROVED
FOR MEXICO'S SOUTHERN BAJA WATERS
March 25-31, 2005, Chris Moyers, East Cape Smoke House, East Cape, Baja California Sur, Mexico Sportfishing:
East Cape sportfishing charters 109. Anglers 282. Total Fish 192. Fish/Charter 1.76. Fish/Angler 68. Striped Marlin 85. Dorado 31. Yellowfin Tuna 45. Wahoo 1. Pompano 1. Roosterfish 2. Skipjack Tuna 38. Water Temperature 65-73. Air Temperature 85-57. Seas calm in the a.m. with moderate chop developing in the p.m.
East Cape fishing is up slightly but is still anything but stellar. The wind blew pretty good on four of the reporting days and fishing was affected.
Overall, the striped Marlin fishing has picked up nicely. Both the Dorado and Yellowfin Tuna bites were marginal but were likely to be highly affected by the winds.
The East Cape sportfishing vacation area saw air temperatures range from 57-85 degrees, so we are starting to see the temperature climb ever so slightly on a weekly basis. The water temperature saw a range of 65-73 degrees. Bait-wise, we've got mackerel.
Striped Marlin anglers reported action to the north off Punta Pescadero (3-15 miles, as well as in the vicinity of the shark buoy stops), as well as to the south off La Ribera (5-10 miles).
East Cape Dorado fishing picked up ever so slightly with an overall catch rate at about 11%. Anglers reported limited action to the north off Punta Pescadero.
The Yellowfin tuna bite fell off a bit but again, the wind was at least partially responsible. Most fish are still in the football class at 10-20 lbs.
