WAHOO SEARCH OFF PUNTA ARENA IS SUCCESSFUL
FOR THE EAST CAPE FISHING BOAT FAT CAT

April 23, 2005, Bill Burkett, Fat Cat, Los Barriles, East Cape, Baja California Sur, Mexico Fishing Boat Report:

Between trips to all the local police stations from Los Barriles to Cabo San Lucas, trying to make them all aware of my stolen tackle, and a late north wind for a couple of days, I only fished one day this past week.

Fat Cat fished at East Cape on Monday with my friend Rod Kubly and his son Matt.

We started our day fishing the edge of the drop-off from Punta Colorada to just outside the marine park at Cabo Pulmo in 200 to 400 feet of water trying to catch a wahoo. Because we were targeting 'Hoos we were pulling a couple of Marauders, as well a two marlin lures off the outriggers. Although conditions looked good, with 73 degree blue water and clouds of bait showing on the sounder, nothing happened.

So, we switched directions back to the north with an offshore lean. As we got back to about 6 miles east of Punta Arena the port outrigger was slammed and Matt Kubly was fighting his first wahoo. It turned out to be a real nice fish of about 60 pounds.

In the same fishing area where we caught the wahoo, we saw several other boats fighting marlin, free jumping marlin and even a tailer that wouldn't eat, but we had no further action, not that anyone was complaining about our catch.
