FISHING TRIP REPORT FOR 4 DAYS ABOARD THE BOAT TRES AMIGOS
May 12, 2005, Craig Jones, East Cape, Baja, Mexico fishing trip:
I fished with friends Rus Fritz of La Ribera and Gene Fukumoto. We fished out of East Cape's Hotel Punta Colorada on May 5-9, 2005. Fishing was slow. At the moment, tuna are still relatively far offshore for hotel based fishing boats to reach. Some footballs where landed out of Palmas De Cortes, but not too many.
On Friday, I landed a 90 pound Striped Marlin that took a live Mackerel tossed to him. I landed him standing up on Penn 113H with a Seeker A660 Rod.
The following day, we worked the rocks north of Cabo Pulmo and had a variety of quality fish. We landed a mixed bag of Pargo, Cabrilla, Pompano, Trigger Fish, Sierra and Dorado.
All in all, a good trip.
We fished on the Tres Amigos. Pelon is captain and first mate was Jesus. They were superb. We fished with them before and would recommend them highly.
We fished 4 days. On Thursday, we were skunked, not even a bite. Flying fish were starting to show, so the water is warming, but I'm not sure of the actual temperature. We had smooth seas with no breeze.
On Friday we caught my Striped Marlin, a Dorado and Cabrilla. Conditions were the same as Thursday.
On Saturday we landed 4 Pargo and got cut off on many more, 4 Pompano, 4 Triggerfish and 2 Cabrilla. It was breezy in the morning, picking up in the afternoon, and the seas had light swells.
On Sunday we fished 1/2 day and boated a Sierra and a 3 Pargo, and again, several bit us off. The wind had picked up and seas had 2 foot swells.
