MILD FISHING WEATHER CONTINUES THIS WEEK AT EAST CAPE
June 18, 2005, Roy Baldwin, Rancho Leonero, East Cape fishing, Mexico:
The unusually mild fishing weather continues at East Cape, with cool mornings in the mid 60's, afternoon highs to near 90, clear, sunny days, and mostly calm mornings with some afternoon southeast breezes. The water temperature in the East Cape vacation area was warmer this week, with 80 degrees off Isla Cerralvo and 74 degrees off Los Frailes.
Fish are biting more aggressively, with striped marlin, blue marlin, tuna, wahoo, roosterfish and pargo all biting.
The billfish bite remains spread, from Punta Pescadero to Los Frailes, about 10-20 miles out, with tailing striped marlin everywhere and with some blue marlin mixed in. Fish are taking a mix of live bait and lures.
The tuna bite was better this week, with tuna under porpoise about 20 miles out from La Ribera to Cabo Pulmo. Tuna of 15-30 pounds are taking mostly pink/silver hoochies, with live bait and cedar plugs also getting bit.
Dorado are few, very spread, taking mostly trolled marlin lures.
More fish wahoo were taken this week, mostly on marlin lures, off Cabo Pulmo.
Inside fishing for roosterfish remains steady, with fish averaging 20 pounds off the beaches from La Ribera to Las Barracas, taking live bait, with pargo and large pompano taking bait off the reefs from La Ribera to Los Frailes.
